A Review of the Current Estate Tax Laws and How They Affect Your Estate Plan
The estate tax laws have generally been in a state of flux in the past, with changing exemptions and rates that could potentially sunset back to old exemptions and rates. In 2013, Congress passed “permanent” estate tax legislation, which is not set to expire in the future; however, no legislation is truly permanent because Congress can always change the laws.
During our presentation, we will discuss the current federal estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer (“GST”) tax laws, how they differ from previous laws, and how these changes impact your estate planning documents. We will cover the current federal estate, gift and GST exemptions and tax rates, portability of the estate tax exemptions, state estate tax laws and common estate planning strategies that can be implemented to accomplish your estate planning objectives in light of these changes in law.
